C$16.0 / Adult

This garden is a peaceful spot built in the style of a traditional Chinese scholar’s garden. It’s designed to show harmony between people and nature, with winding paths, koi ponds, and carefully placed rocks and plants. The space is a calm escape from the city, and it’s also a place to learn about Chinese culture and history.

  • The garden is most popular for its authentic Ming Dynasty design, which uses imported materials and traditional building methods.
  • You’ll find beautiful pavilions, covered walkways, and a jade-green pond filled with koi fish.
  • There are also art displays and cultural exhibits that change throughout the year.

  • See Real Ming Dynasty Architecture: The garden is the first of its kind built outside China, using the same techniques and materials as gardens in Suzhou. It’s like stepping into another world.
  • Chill in a Super Calm Space: The garden is a quiet place to relax, take photos, or just enjoy the peaceful vibe. It’s a break from noise and crowds.
  • Learn Something New: There are signs and tours that explain the meaning behind the design, the plants, and the art. It’s a cool way to get a taste of Chinese culture without leaving the city.

  • Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon for fewer people and softer light for photos.
  • Book tickets in advance, especially on weekends or during special events.
  • No specific dress code, but comfy shoes are a good idea since you’ll be walking on stone paths.

Highlights & Description

A bit of tranquillity and reflection can do a world of good when the hum of city life gets a bit too loud. Vancouver's Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden has been providing just that since 1986.

Meander the serene paths, catching glimpses of koi fish and turtles as you go, and admire picturesque pagodas and reflections cast from the ponds.

This Ming Dynasty-style garden-home is the first among its kind to have been built outside of China, and is a unique venue for cultural programming and events, including guided tours, concerts, festivals, exhibitions, receptions, educational and cultural programs.

As a registered not-for-profit, all garden revenue goes toward their mission to bring together cultures and communities through educational and public programs.

One of Vancouver's top tourist attractions, it's no wonder why it was Canada’s Garden of the Year in 2012 and named the 'World's Top City Garden' by National Geographic.
